"Some people make things happen, some watch things happen, while others wonder what has happened."
As I reflect on my term as president of NMCCEA I realize so many events around early childhood have happened in our state. A few stand out: a New Mexico Pre-K that includes the participation of 50 % private providers not to mention both faith-based and tax paying centers. Rate increases for child care assistance for back to back years, and most recently the development and approval of NMCCEA’s on-line training that will soon count as the equivalent of the 45 hour class! No less important was the formation of a state-wide, early childhood advocacy group called: The Early Childhood Alliance of which NMCCEA is a founding member. When I look at what NMCCEA has accomplished on behalf of licensed child care providers across the state I am amazed at the work and dedication of your volunteer board! Although my presidency is coming to an end, my obligation to advocate for early childhood educators and the families we represent never ends. The relationships that I have created at the state and national level will continue. My desire for each individual program’s success will continue. And my request for members become active within NMCCEA is based on a desire for us to continue to help shape the future of high quality care & education for New Mexico families. We have heard the saying language: “Some people make things happen, some watch things happen, while others wonder what has happened.” If you’ve ever received the new licensing regulations and thought “what’s happening around here?” Or if your rate increase for child on assistance caught you by surprise maybe it’s time for you to get involved with NMCCEA. A volunteer experience with NMCCEA will provide benefits to your center as well as opportunities for personal and professional growth. Most importantly you can make a difference for families with young children. Thank you for the opportunity to work on your behalf. I will continue to be an active volunteer and I look forward to the challenging work ahead.
