August 2008 Special Session Delivers on Governor's 2003 Campaign Promise

The five day special session held August 15th - 20th resulted in an immediate return to the 200% of poverty eligibility for New Mexico families.   Hundreds of families over the current 165% of poverty will now be able to access child care services in all our communities.  When Governor Richardson first came to office in 2003, he promised to reverse the Johnson administration cuts to child care eligibility.  Thanks should go to our long term legislative child care advocates: Lt. Governor Diane Denish; Sen. Linda Lopez; Rep. Rhonda King and Sen. Sue Wilson Beffort.

Look for our ambitious agenda for the 2009 Legislative session including: gross receipts tax cuts, quality program rate increases, maintenance of the 50/50 PED/ CYFD Pre K funding division; and protection from mandated degrees for your programs.
