"Message from the President Elect"

Hello Members,
I trust that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and look forward to a wonderful year ahead. This year’s legislative session has crucial issues that will affect all who are in childcare as well as the families you serve. Be sure to check out our legislative section in this newsletter and keep up to date with what is happening. We encourage you to join us for our annual membership meeting in Santa Fe. Linda Siegle our lobbyist will update us on everything going on.
Secondly, I want to remind you all of a great resource I recently toured. The staff at the New Mexico Kids Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) maintains a statewide database of providers that are licensed or registered. Through this data base as a provider you can access rate information for your area, what centers in your area may have openings that you could refer families too or simply is a great resource to refer families to call if your center isn’t the right fit for them. A parent who calls the CCR&R will give all the information that is critical to their child care needs and the data base will create a map and list of providers that serve their needs within the area designated. Simply call the office for any information that you may need at 277-7900 (ABQ) or 1-800-691-9067 (statewide). The office staff is bi-lingual for Spanish speakers that need the support. If you are simply looking for referrals for a family it is sometimes easier to direct them to www.NewMexicoKids.org. I personally have utilized the database to gain some much needed demographic information and would encourage you to do the same.
We are looking for members who would like to get more involved. If you have a passion to see changes in the state, wish to support educators, or want to improve the lives of the families we serve consider giving us a call to discuss how you can become involved.
Looking forward to seeing you at the annual meeting in February,
